“Pictures of Garbage”, his photographic work partly made from waste, draws the attention of the public to a self-created worldleft on the edge of society. The movie Waste Land, awarded at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, follows the creation process of these art pieces and outlines the commitment of the artist to the Catadores.
Vik Muniz is a visual artist born in Brazil. He is known for his critical appropriations of existing art pieces. Since 1996, with his debut set of portraits “Sugar Children”, his work has displayed a strong sense of social consciousness.
