Leather is usually tanned with heavy metals such as chromium which are then discarded by in the surrounding rivers of the tannery.
This polluts water, soils, ground water, threatens the ecosystem and causes pollution in towns and villages. Ecological leather is a chrome-free leather, inspired by tanning ancient methods that only uses organic compounds. Veja has developed this leather in Brazil that is soft enough to make sneakers.
